Rules for the game of Air Hockey

In air hockey, the first person to accrue seven points is the winner. To score a point, the puck (the rubber disk) must enter and drop inside an opponent's goal. The exception to this score would be if play had been suspended by the referee, or the offensive player had committed a foul before or during the shot.

After each game has finished, the players will switch sides. Then the player (loser) that had been scored upon will receive the puck for the next serve. The puck can be hand- served only after the puck has entered his goal. Only one mallet can be played on the playing surface at one time. If this rule is violated, it will result in a foul.

Any portion of the mallet may strike the puck. However, at all times it is against the rules to "top" the puck by lifting the mallet and putting it on top of the puck. It is not a topping violation to use the mallet to bring an airborne puck to the table or the opponent's goal (no matter which side of the puck is contacted).

There can only be one puck in play at a time. Only seven seconds are allowed to execute a shot that comes across the center line. Either player may hit the puck when it is in contact with any part of the center line.

A player cannot stand past the center line, but he may stand anywhere around the table on his or her side.

A foul will be called if "palming" occurs. Palming happens when any portion of a player's hand, arm, body or clothes touches the puck.

One 10 second time-out is allowed per player per game. A time out can be called by a player only when the puck is in his or her possession or when the puck is not in play. It is imperative that the player make it clear that he or she is calling a time-out in order for the referee to understand the intention of the player.
