Some Rules and Tips to
Follow when Playing Foosball
|
To start the game, flip a coin to determine who gets the first serve.
After a goal is scored, the team who the goal was scored upon gets to
serve. This also applies when a ball is out of play or after a neutral
dead ball.
The best approach to serving the ball is to serve it to your 5-bar and
try to serve to your men each time. It will help to practice different
ways of serving in order to accomplish this. Passing rules demand that
there be no spinning. There is also a 10 second time limit to shoot or
pass. It is permitted to shoot and/or score from your 5-bar.
The main objective is to pass the ball through your opponents 5-bar to
your offensive 3-bar. The 3-bar should be in the catch position. Angle
the men figures forward on the 3-bar toward the target goal. If this is
done, a ball that strikes the back of the man will stop below your
3-bar. Once again, you have a 10 second time limit in which to shoot and
there is no spinning.
Pace yourself and take your time. You should stop the ball underneath
the rod, then move the ball between your men on this rod. You can
accomplish this move by tapping or pushing the ball with the sides of
the feet, but keep it under the same rod.
Drive the ball in front of the goal, then shoot. Do not spin the rods
and do not move the table. You are not allowed to exhibit
unsportsmanlike conduct nor are you allowed to distract your opponent.
In addition, in defensive 5-bar rules there is no banging against the
sidewalls and no shaking of the table.
The object is to prevent your opponents from obtaining the ball. Adjust
your defensive play to the skills of your opponent. You may need to
position one of your men in front of the ball at all times. You may need
to alter a defense if your opponent is particularly quick. With
blocking, there is no banging against the sidewalls and no jarring of
the table.
In order to form a cohesive defensive unit, use the middle man on the
defensive 3-bar and the 1-man on your 2-bar. The outside men on the
3-bar should not be used for blocking, but for manipulating the ball and
getting the ball out of the corners.
You need to stop playing if the ball stops out of reach of any player or
if the ball runs off of the table. Dead balls are re-served by the team
who served that point unless the ball dies in the defensive zone; then
in that situation, the goalie moves the ball to his closest player
figure and starts playing. Once again, there is no spinning allowed, and
only 10 seconds are allowed to clear the ball.
Your main task is to clear the ball rather than to shoot on goal. The
ball should be stopped before you begin a pass or shot. Chances are, if
you swing while the ball is moving and miss it, it will end up on your
opponent’s Striker Row. Get the 5-bar out of the way before you shoot.
Watch for passing holes or clearings down the sides.
The first team to score five points wins the game. |
